Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk, is a fictional character from the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire," created by George R.R. Martin. He was a hedge knight during the reigns of Kings Daeron II, Aerys I, Maekar I, and Aegon V Targaryen. Raised in Flea Bottom, he became the squire of Ser Arlan of Pennytree and later traveled the Seven Kingdoms as a hedge knight himself. He is notably tall, just an inch shy of seven feet. Duncan is known for his humility, strength, and skill with weapons, particularly swords, axes, and maces. Duncan's story is primarily told in the "Tales of Dunk and Egg" series, which chronicles his early adventures with his squire, "Egg," later revealed to be Prince Aegon, the future King Aegon V Targaryen. Duncan eventually becomes the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under Aegon V. His character is depicted as honorable and loyal, often defending the weak and standing against injustice. He died heroically during the tragic fire at Summerhall while trying to save members of the royal family. Duncan the Tall is featured in the television adaptation "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," where he is portrayed by Peter Claffey.
