The Twin Towers of the original World Trade Center complex in New York City were each 110 stories tall. The North Tower (1 World Trade Center) stood 1,368 feet (417 meters) high, and the South Tower (2 World Trade Center) was 1,362 feet (415.1 meters) tall. Each tower had a footprint of about 1 acre (approximately 4,000 square meters) and a width of about 64 meters (210 feet) square. Together, they occupied a total of 16 acres of the site. The towers contained approximately 13,400,000 square feet of office space. Each tower weighed around 250,000 tons, had 99 elevators, and contained 21,800 windows. The floor space and height made them the tallest and largest twin skyscrapers in the world until 1996 and among the tallest buildings globally at their completion in 1973.
