The wreckage of the Titanic lies at a depth of approximately 12,500 feet (3,810 meters), which is about 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometers) beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. This extreme depth places it in the "midnight zone" of the ocean, where there is complete darkness and immense water pressure, around 400 atmospheres. The wreck is located about 350 miles south-southeast off the coast of Newfoundland and lies in two main sections about 2,000 feet apart on the ocean floor.
