how do you tame a nautilus in minecraft

Nature

Nautilus is a new underwater mount in recent Minecraft versions, and taming it works a bit like taming a cat or wolf. You mainly need pufferfish and a way to interact with the mob underwater.

Basic taming steps

  1. Find a Nautilus in the ocean, usually in deeper waters where underwater mobs spawn more frequently.
  2. Get several pufferfish (either as regular pufferfish items or in a bucket, depending on your version) by fishing or finding them in ocean biomes.
  3. While holding pufferfish, swim close to the Nautilus and use the interact button on it repeatedly until you see heart particles appear, which means it is tamed.

After it is tamed

Once hearts appear and the Nautilus is tamed, it becomes passive toward you and will follow you underwater instead of fleeing or attacking. You can then put a saddle on it and ride it like an underwater horse, gaining an underwater breathing or “Breath of the Nautilus” effect while mounted in current versions.

Extra tips

  • Taming is chance‑based, so bring multiple pufferfish; it often takes more than one.
  • You can usually heal or breed Nautilus using fish (like cod, salmon, or other fish items), and baby Nautilus raised by you end up automatically tamed once grown in newer snapshots/updates.
