A 2‑month‑old baby can see your face clearly when you’re holding them, but the rest of the room is still pretty blurry. Their “clear focus” range is still quite close.
Typical seeing distance
Most sources estimate that by around 2 months, babies can focus clearly on objects roughly 8–18 inches (about 20–45 cm) from their eyes, which is about the distance to a caregiver’s face during feeding or when being held. Anything much farther away is visible as shapes and movement, but not in sharp detail yet.
What vision is like at 2 months
At this age, babies are getting better at focusing and may start tracking slow-moving objects or faces with their eyes. They are also beginning to notice colors and high‑contrast patterns, which are easiest for them to see and most engaging.
