The English alphabet has 26 letters. These letters include both vowels and consonants:
- 5 vowels: A, E, I, O, U
- 21 consonants: B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z
Each letter has both an uppercase and lowercase form. The current 26-letter alphabet has been in use since the 16th century, derived from the Latin alphabet.
