The total number of lives lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks was approximately 2,996 people. This includes 2,977 victims and 19 hijackers. The victims comprised around 2,606 people at the World Trade Center, 125 at the Pentagon, and 265 people on the four hijacked planes. The death toll included many civilians, firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and had victims from at least 90 countries. Thousands more were injured, and many rescue workers later died from health effects related to the attacks.
