School shootings in the United States happen frequently, with data showing a significant increase over the past decades. In 2024, there were 332 shooting incidents at K-12 schools alone, resulting in 267 injuries and fatalities. Since the Columbine shooting in 1999, there have been more than 400 school shootings exposing over 370,000 students to gun violence. On average, from 2013 to 2021, the U.S. experienced just over 87 school shootings each year, resulting in around 28 deaths and 60 injuries annually. In 2025, so far, there have been 9 school shootings with injuries or deaths reported as of early September. The frequency of these shootings has been rising, making them a tragically common occurrence in American schools.
