Polar bears typically stand about 5 feet tall at the shoulder when on all fours and measure about 7 to 8 feet long from nose to tail. When they stand on their hind legs, they can reach heights of 9 to 10 feet or more, with some exceptional individuals reported as tall as 11 or 12 feet. Males are generally larger than females, and the largest recorded male polar bears have weighed over 2,200 pounds and stood over 11 feet tall on their hind legs.
