To measure bangle size, there are three common methods:
- Measure hand circumference: Bring thumb and little finger together, then measure around the widest part of the hand (over the knuckles) using a flexible tape, a string, or a ribbon. This gives the size for a closed bangle that slips over the hand.
- Measure wrist circumference: Wrap a measuring tape or string just below the wrist bone where the bangle will rest. This is used for hinged, cuff, or open bangles that fit snugly around the wrist.
- Measure an existing bangle: Measure the diameter of a bangle that fits well, either with a ruler or caliper. The diameter helps determine the matching size in charts.
You will need either a flexible measuring tape or a string/ribbon and a ruler to take these measurements. These measurements can then be compared to bangle size charts that show the hand or wrist circumference along with corresponding bangle diameters. For example, a wrist circumference of about 6.5 to 7 inches (16.5 to 17.5 cm) corresponds to a bangle diameter of about 2.13 to 2.25 inches (54 to 57 mm) which is a common medium size. When measuring your hand for closed bangles, fold your thumb in and bring your fingers together as much as possible to get an accurate widest hand size. If measuring wrist for hinged/open bangles, measure so it's snug but not too tight, as the bangle should be comfortable around the wrist. This guidance allows accurate estimation of bangle size for purchasing or making bangles that fit well.
