To take a screenshot on a MacBook, there are several keyboard shortcuts depending on what you want to capture:
- To capture the entire screen, press Shift + Command (⌘) + 3. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
- To capture a specific window, press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4, then press the spacebar. Your cursor will turn into a camera icon. Click the window you want to capture, and the screenshot will be saved to your desktop.
- To capture a selected portion of the screen, press Shift + Command (⌘) + 4. The cursor changes to a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area, then release the mouse button to take the screenshot, which saves to the desktop.
- You can also press Shift + Command (⌘) + 5 to open the Screenshot app, which offers options to capture the entire screen, a window, a selected portion, or to record screen video.
These methods are the standard ways to take screenshots on MacBooks running macOS Mojave and later.
