Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide on August 10, 2019, in his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City. He hanged himself using an orange noose he made from a sheet or shirt. Epstein was found unresponsive by guards in the early morning hours and was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital. Multiple investigations concluded that his death was suicide, although there were major lapses and negligence in jail procedures that allowed it to happen, such as his cellmate being transferred out with no replacement, guards falling asleep and falsifying records, and malfunctioning cameras. Despite widespread conspiracy theories, no evidence supporting foul play has been found by official investigations.
