The continents of the world are generally classified into seven large landmasses. These seven continents are:
- Africa
- Antarctica
- Asia
- Australia (sometimes called Oceania or Australasia)
- Europe
- North America
- South America
These continents are considered major geographical regions, each distinct in size, population, and characteristics. Some models vary in the number of continents by merging some regions like Asia and Europe into Eurasia or North and South America into one continent called America, but the most widely accepted model lists these seven continents.
