where a kangaroo keeps her joeys

A kangaroo keeps her joeys in a pouch on her belly. This pouch is a fold of skin that covers the teats and acts as a protective nursery where the underdeveloped newborn joey continues growing and developing. After birth, the tiny joey crawls from the birth canal up through its mother's fur to reach and enter the pouch. It stays inside the pouch for several months (typically around 6 to 11 months, depending on the species) before starting to leave the pouch for short periods and eventually leaving it for good. The mother cleans the pouch regularly to keep it safe and hygienic for the joey.
