The 4th plane on September 11, 2001, was United Airlines Flight 93. It crashed into a field near Stonycreek Township, close to Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The crash site is about 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and approximately 130 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. The passengers on board fought back against the hijackers, preventing the aircraft from reaching its intended target, which is believed to have been a federal government building in Washington, D.C., possibly the Capitol or the White House. The plane crashed in a reclaimed coal strip mine area, creating a crater and a large fireball upon impact, killing everyone on board but causing no casualties on the ground.
