Osama bin Laden was found and killed by U.S. Navy SEALs on May 2, 2011, during a pre-dawn raid on a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The location was identified through intelligence tracking one of bin Laden's trusted couriers, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, whose residence in the compound was pinpointed by the CIA. The compound was a large, secured property without telephone or internet connections, located about a mile from the Pakistan Military Academy. The successful operation, dubbed Operation Neptune Spear, was carried out on orders from U.S. President Barack Obama, and the compound was subsequently demolished by the Pakistani government in 2012.
