Afghanistan is a landlocked country located in Central and South Asia, often described as being at the crossroads of these regions. It shares borders with several countries: Pakistan to the east and south, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan to the north, and China to the northeast. Its geographic coordinates are approximately 34.5° N latitude and 69.1° E longitude. Kabul is the capital and largest city of Afghanistan. The country is mountainous, including the Hindu Kush range, with plains mainly in the north and southwest. Afghanistan is roughly the size of Texas in the United States and has an area of about 652,864 square kilometers (252,072 square miles).
