The Bay of Biscay is a gulf of the northeast Atlantic Ocean located along the western coast of France, stretching from Brest in the north down to the Spanish border, and along the northern coast of Spain westward to Cape Ortegal. It lies south of the Celtic Sea and is named after the province of Biscay in the Spanish Basque Country. The bay is known for its rough weather and storms, especially in winter, and has a maximum depth of about 4,735 meters (15,535 feet).
