Instant ramen was invented by Momofuku Ando in 1958. He developed the world's first instant noodles called "Chicken Ramen" after extensive trial and error in a shed behind his house in Ikeda, Japan. His invention was motivated by post-World War II food shortages in Japan, with the goal of creating a nutritious, inexpensive, and easy-to-prepare food. Ando's invention revolutionized convenient food, later leading to the creation of Cup Noodles in 1971, which further popularized instant ramen globally.
