BritBox ownership is divided between the UK and international services.
- BritBox International, which operates in countries including the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Nordic countries, is now fully owned by BBC Studios after it bought the remaining 50% stake from ITV for about £255 million (approximately $322 million) in February 2024. BBC Studios is a commercial subsidiary of the BBC Group. AMC Networks holds a non-voting minority stake in the US service. This international service focuses on British scripted content and has grown significantly under BBC Studios' full control.
- The UK BritBox service, however, is fully owned by ITV. Originally a joint venture between BBC and ITV, the BBC sold its share in BritBox UK to ITV. As of 2022, the service in the UK was integrated into ITV's streaming platform ITVX, with standalone BritBox UK service to be shut down by April 2024.
In summary, BBC Studios fully owns BritBox International outside the UK, while ITV fully owns and operates BritBox within the UK.
