Jesus, also known as Jesus Christ and Jesus of Nazareth, was a 1st-century Jewish preacher and religious leader who is the central figure of Christianity, the world's largest religion. He lived approximately from 6-4 BC to around AD 30 or 33. Most Christians believe Jesus to be the incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Messiah (Christ) prophesied in the Old Testament. Historically, Jesus was a teacher who traveled, healed, taught in parables, and gathered followers including twelve apostles. He was crucified under the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate, and his followers believe he rose from the dead, leading to the formation of the early Christian Church. Jesus is also considered God incarnate by Christians, and his life, teachings, death, and resurrection are recorded in the New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).
