The book "Fahrenheit 451" was written by the American author Ray Bradbury. He wrote this dystopian novel in 1953, depicting a future American society where books are outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found. Bradbury was inspired by events such as book burnings in Nazi Germany and ideological repression during the McCarthy era in the United States. He wrote the novel in the basement of UCLA's Powell Library on a typewriter he rented, and completed the first draft in nine days. The title refers to the temperature at which book paper catches fire and burns, which Bradbury learned from a fire chief.
