A fast blinking turn signal (blinker) usually means there is an issue with the electrical circuit that causes the blink rate to speed up. The most common cause is a failing or burned-out bulb on that side of the vehicle. When a bulb fails, it changes the electrical resistance in the circuit. This altered resistance causes the flasher relay to blink faster than normal. Other causes can include poor or damaged electrical connections, bad ground connections, or faulty relays and switches in the turn signal circuit. Sometimes aftermarket bulbs with different electrical properties (like LEDs) can also cause fast blinking if the system is not designed for them. To fix a fast blinking turn signal:
- Check and replace any burned-out bulbs.
- Inspect wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- Ensure the ground and voltage supply are good.
- Replace faulty relays or switches if necessary.
If uncertain, it is best to have a technician inspect the vehicle as modern cars can have more complex electrical systems making diagnosis harder.
