The Washington Commanders’ pig mascot, Major Tuddy, is a tribute to the franchise’s famous “Hogs” offensive line from the 1980s and early 1990s. The team adopted the hog-themed mascot to honor those legendary linemen who powered three Super Bowl–winning teams, and to connect the modern era to that storied past. The name combines “Major,” nodding to Washington, D.C.’s military history, with “Tuddy,” a football slang shorthand for a touchdown. Major Tuddy debuted after the 2022 rebrand as part of embracing the team’s heritage while adding a playful, family-friendly figure for game-day energy.
