A food handler's apron must be removed in the following situations: when going to the restroom, when taking out the garbage, when the apron is dirty, and whenever leaving a food preparation area. Additionally, aprons should be changed after working with raw foods or handling allergens, and whenever visibly soiled to prevent contamination and maintain hygiene. Aprons must never be worn outside of food preparation areas because they can carry contaminants back into the kitchen. After removing the apron, food handlers should wash their hands before putting on a clean apron if they return to food preparation.
