The Aditya-L1 mission, launched by ISRO on September 2, 2023, reached its target orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1) on January 6, 2024. This point is about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth towards the Sun, where the spacecraft is in a stable halo orbit to continuously observe the Sun. The mission took around four months to reach this position and it does not travel directly to the Sun nor land on it; rather, it stays at this vantage point to study the solar atmosphere.
