Rani Abbakka Chowta fought primarily against the Portuguese colonial forces in the latter half of the 16th century. She was the queen of Ullal, a coastal kingdom in present-day Karnataka, India, and resisted Portuguese attempts to conquer her territory and impose tribute. The Portuguese launched several military campaigns against her, including attacks led by Admiral Dom Álvaro da Silveira in 1555 and General João Peixoto in 1568, both of which she successfully resisted. Despite Portuguese captures of strategic forts like Mangalore and Kundapur, Rani Abbakka continued to fight fiercely, even forming alliances with the Bijapur Sultan of Ahmednagar and the Zamorin of Calicut, who were also opposing Portuguese expansion. Her own estranged husband betrayed her by siding with the Portuguese, but she remained a formidable opponent until her death fighting against the Portuguese colonial forces
