Azaleas are highly poisonous to dogs. The plant contains toxins called grayanotoxins that affect the heart, muscles, and nerves. Even small amounts (as little as 0.2% of a dog's body weight) can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive drooling, weakness, tremors, abnormal heart rate, seizures, and potentially death. Immediate veterinary care is necessary if a dog ingests any part of an azalea plant.
