Fig trees, including fiddle leaf fig plants, are toxic to cats. The leaves, stems, and sap contain compounds such as ficin and psoralen (ficusin), which can cause irritation and toxicity if ingested or if they come into contact with a cat's skin or mucous membranes. Exposure may result in symptoms like drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, oral irritation, skin rashes, and changes in appetite or behavior. Serious illness or death is rare, but ingestion can cause significant discomfort for cats, so it is best to keep fig trees and plants away from feline pets.
