Orb weaver spiders are not dangerous to humans. Although they possess mild venom used to paralyze their insect prey, their venom is not potent enough to cause serious harm to humans. Their bites, if they occur, are generally rare and usually feel like a mild bee sting, causing only mild pain, numbness, swelling, or localized itching. People allergic to their venom might experience more pronounced symptoms like nausea or dizziness, but these cases are uncommon. Orb weavers are not aggressive and usually flee rather than bite when threatened. They are also considered beneficial for controlling insect pests around homes and gardens.
