Snake plants (Sansevieria trifasciata), also known as mother-in-law's tongue, are toxic to cats. They contain compounds called saponins that can cause gastrointestinal distress if ingested by cats. Symptoms of snake plant poisoning in cats include drooling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, and swelling in the mouth or throat. Although generally the toxicity is mild to moderate and usually not fatal, ingestion can be uncomfortable and potentially harmful, especially if a large amount is eaten. It is best to keep snake plants out of reach of cats to prevent ingestion and associated symptoms.
