There are no wolves currently living in the United Kingdom. Wolves were once native to the UK, with evidence showing they lived there since the last Ice Age and were widespread during medieval times. However, due to deforestation, hunting, and bounties, wolves were progressively exterminated, and the last known wolf in the UK was believed to have been killed in the Scottish Highlands around 1680. There have been discussions about reintroducing wolves to Scotland, but no official efforts have been made, and societal readiness and cultural perceptions remain significant barriers to such reintroduction at this time.
