The idea for a dhoti-clad Indian Spider-Man was first given to writer Stan Lee by the legendary Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Ray met Stan Lee in New York and casually pitched the concept of an Indian version of Spider-Man. Lee was impressed by Ray's idea and asked him to send over some concepts for the character. Ray put his vision on paper, but he did not see it come to fruition during his lifetime. Decades later, Indian writers Suresh Devarajan, Jeevan Kang, and Suresh Seetharaman brought Ray's idea to life, creating the character Pavitr Prabhakar, the Indian Spider-Man who wears a dhoti, kurta, and jutti sandals
