Bactidol is an oral antiseptic solution that protects the throat from sore-throat germs before it worsens to a cough, cold, or flu. It is a dual-action mouthwash that protects against oral bacterial and fungal infections. The active ingredient in Bactidol is Hexetidine, which is a topical antiseptic agent used for disinfection and prevention of bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections of the oral and vaginal mucosa.
Positive aspects of Bactidol:
- Protects the throat from sore-throat germs before it worsens to a cough, cold, or flu.

- Has a wide spectrum of antibacterial and anti-fungal effects, particularly in relation to gram-positive bacteria and fungi belonging to the Candida genus.

- Mild irritation of the buccal tissues may occur, although this is very rare.
- Allergic contact dermatitis and alterations in taste and smell have occasionally been reported.
- Undiluted hexetidine (Bactidol®), 100% concentration was found to be cytotoxic to the MDCK cell line used for Influenza A H1N1 propagation.
