Bernice Worden was the owner of a hardware store in Plainfield, Wisconsin. She was murdered by Ed Gein in 1957. Gein, who was also known as the Butcher of Plainfield, killed Worden, shot her with a .22-caliber rifle, and mutilated her body after death. Her decapitated body was found hanging in a shed on Gein's property, dressed like a deer. Investigators discovered this gruesome scene along with many other grotesque items made from human remains in Gein's house. Worden's murder was one of two confirmed killings by Ed Gein, the other being Mary Hogan, a tavern owner who disappeared earlier in 1954.
