The creators of The Matrix are Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, two American film directors, writers, and producers known collectively as the Wachowskis. They were originally known as the Wachowski Brothers but both have since transitioned and are now known as the Wachowski Sisters. They wrote and directed The Matrix (1999), which was a major box-office success, along with its two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both in 2003).
