can calico cats be male

Calico cats are almost always female due to the genetics of coat color being linked to the X chromosome. However, male calico cats can exist but are very rare. This happens when a male cat has a genetic anomaly resulting in an extra X chromosome, making their chromosomal pattern XXY instead of the usual XY. This condition is similar to Klinefelter syndrome in humans. Such male calico cats are usually sterile. The occurrence of male calico cats is estimated to be about 1 in 3,000 male cat births, making them a rare phenomenon.
