Cats technically can eat hot dogs but it is not recommended. Hot dogs are highly processed, containing high levels of sodium, unhealthy fats, preservatives, and sometimes toxic seasonings like garlic and onion powder which can be harmful to cats. Feeding hot dogs to cats regularly or in significant amounts can lead to dehydration, sodium-ion poisoning, high blood pressure, digestive upset, obesity, and other health issues. Very small, plain pieces of hot dog without condiments might not cause immediate harm but hot dogs lack nutritional value for cats and are best avoided in favor of healthier, cat-appropriate treats like plain cooked chicken or fish.
