Cats can technically drink coffee, but they absolutely should not. Coffee contains caffeine and theobromine, both of which are highly toxic to cats. Even small amounts of coffee can cause serious health problems such as increased heart rate, restlessness, vomiting, muscle tremors, and in severe cases, seizures or death. Most cats dislike the bitter taste of coffee and are unlikely to consume large amounts, but accidental ingestion should be avoided, and if it occurs, veterinary advice should be sought immediately. Coffee grounds and concentrated caffeinated products are especially dangerous to cats. Therefore, it is safest to keep coffee and any caffeinated products out of reach of cats completely.
