Cats should not have ranch dressing. Ranch contains ingredients like garlic, onions, chives, and dairy (buttermilk, sour cream), which are toxic or harmful to cats. Garlic, onions, and chives can cause damage to a cat's red blood cells leading to anemia. Dairy can cause digestive upset since most cats are lactose intolerant. In addition, ranch has high salt, fat, sugar, and artificial additives that can lead to dehydration, pancreatitis, obesity, and digestive problems. While a small lick might not cause immediate harm, ranch dressing is not safe for cats in any amount and should be completely avoided. If a cat consumes ranch, watch for symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, pale gums, and loss of appetite, and seek vet care if needed. Safer treats include plain cooked meats or veterinarian-approved cat snacks.
