Dogs can eat capsicum (bell peppers) safely in moderation. Capsicum offers several health benefits for dogs, such as being rich in vitamins (A, C, and K), providing antioxidants, fiber to aid digestion, and having anti- inflammatory properties. Red, yellow, and orange capsicums are more nutritious than green ones, and mild or sweet varieties are recommended rather than spicy ones. Capsicum should be given in small amounts, cut into manageable pieces to prevent choking, and introduced gradually to watch for stomach upset or allergic reactions. Cooking capsicum can improve digestibility. However, feeding too much capsicum may cause digestive issues, so it should only be an occasional treat and a supplement to a balanced diet. Spicy or unripe peppers and stems should be avoided due to compounds like capsaicin and solanine, which can be harmful.
