Alcohol consumption is allowed in Azerbaijan. It is a secular Islamic country where many people drink alcohol, and it can be purchased in most restaurants, shops, supermarkets, pubs, and clubs throughout the country, including in the capital Baku. Alcohol consumption is generally accepted and may even be consumed in public. However, it is prohibited in places of religious purpose such as mosques, and during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, alcohol might not be served in some places. Some more religious villages may also not accept alcohol. Popular alcoholic drinks include wine, beer, vodka, and local wines and cognacs, with the local production of alcoholic beverages being well developed and regulated. There is no significant legal restriction preventing alcohol consumption socially or publicly aside from these noted exceptions.
