The show was proposed by Rob Worsoff, a Canadian-born reality TV producer known for shows like "Duck Dynasty" and "The Millionaire Matchmaker." According to Worsoff, the concept is intended as a positive celebration of America and to humanize immigrants' journeys, not as a punitive or exploitative competition. The challenges would be themed around the states where episodes are filmed, such as a pizza-making challenge in New York or a gold rush challenge in California, culminating in a public vote to select a winner who would receive citizenship
