Jesus did have siblings according to the earliest Gospel accounts. The Gospel of Mark (6:3) names four brothers—James, Joses (Joseph), Judas (Jude), and Simon—and mentions that Jesus had at least two sisters, though they are not named. The Gospel of Matthew (13:55-56) confirms this listing of brothers with slight variations in names. These siblings were likely Jesus' half-brothers and half-sisters, children of Mary and Joseph born after Jesus. During Jesus' life, his brothers did not follow him and even doubted his mission, but after his death, some, notably James, became leaders in the early Christian community. There are alternative interpretations in some Christian traditions that these brothers were cousins or children of Joseph from a previous marriage, but the most straightforward reading of the texts is that Jesus had actual biological siblings.
