- The idea for the Eden Project began in 1996, with construction starting in 1998.
- The site used to be a working china clay pit.
- The project features large biomes housing rainforest and Mediterranean plants and was designed by Grimshaw Architects.
- Its first year welcomed 1.8 million visitors.
There is also a new Eden Project planned for Morecambe, expected to open in winter 2028. However, the original Eden Project opened in 2001.
