Eumovate Cream is a moderately potent topical corticosteroid used to relieve the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of various steroid-responsive dermatoses. Its active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate, a strong anti-inflammatory medicine. Some of the conditions it can be used for include:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Irritant or allergic contact dermatitis
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Nappy rash
- Photodermatitis
- Otitis externa
- Prurigo nodularis
- Insect bite reactions
Eumovate Cream is suitable for adults, elderly individuals, children, and infants. It can be used as maintenance therapy between courses of more potent topical steroids. The cream is especially appropriate for moist or weeping surfaces.
The cream contains the following ingredients:
- Clobetasone butyrate (active ingredient)
- Cetostearyl alcohol (excipient with known effect, may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis)
- Chlorocresol (excipient with known effect, may cause allergic reactions)
- Beeswax substitute 6621
- Citric acid monohydrate
- Paraffin (see section 4.4 of the SmPC)
- Water miscible cream
Some potential side effects of Eumovate Cream include local skin reactions, such as contact dermatitis, and allergic reactions. However, these side effects are not experienced by everyone, and when they do occur, they are usually minor.
