The Vice President of India holds office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office. However, he can continue to hold office beyond this term until his successor assumes office. The Vice President may resign by writing to the President, or can be removed by a resolution of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) passed by a majority and agreed to by the Lok Sabha, with at least 14 days' notice given before moving such a resolution. The term may also end earlier due to death or resignation
