The Geelong Cats are a professional Australian rules football club based in South Geelong, Victoria, Australia. They compete in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1859, they are the second-oldest AFL club and one of the oldest football clubs in the world. The club plays most of their home games at Kardinia Park (GMHBA Stadium) and their traditional guernsey colors are white with navy blue hoops. The nickname "Cats" was adopted in 1923 after a local cartoonist suggested that the club needed a black cat for good luck during a run of losses. The club has won ten VFL/AFL premierships, with the most recent AFL era premierships in 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2022. They have rivalries with Hawthorn and Collingwood. Geelong has teams in other competitions including a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and a senior women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The club's anthem is called "We Are Geelong".
