Hesiod lived near Mount Helicon in Boeotia, central Greece. He was a shepherd who pastured his sheep on nearby Mount Helicon, where he claimed to have been inspired by the Muses. This mountain is strongly associated with his life and poetry, especially in his work "Theogony" where the Muses are depicted as singing in the heights of Mount Helicon.
