At 7 weeks pregnant, a baby (embryo) is approximately the size of a blueberry, measuring around 0.4 inches (about 10mm) in length from head to bottom, known as the crown-rump length. The embryo has doubled in size since the previous week and is about 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Key developments at this stage include rapid brain growth, with about 100 new brain cells forming every minute. The heart is beating, and major organs such as the liver, kidneys, and intestines are forming. Limb buds appear, which will develop into arms and legs, and the embryo’s basic facial features begin to take shape. Although still very small, the embryo is growing rapidly and becoming more complex inside the womb.
